One thing from the Rheingold reading that I found relevant was when it was mentioned that our knowledge of the digital world right now is how it will impact our decisions going forward to the future. As we live in a world filled with technology, it’s important that we understand how to use it for the greater good. Learning to use it will allow us to be safe but also allow us to create a digital world in which can be safer for children who grow up within our society that uses technology. I also learned more about the literacies in which it is important to understand because there are things we have to take into consideration when being on social media and the internet. It can be hard to fully be aware of all digital literacies because the world is constantly changing and things are constantly being added but that’s why it’s also important to stay up to date and teach ourselves when we do have time.
Overall, what has struck me the most in this class is learning how to think critically and being aware of our decisions when it comes to utilizing technology. I think before, I would go on platforms and also use social media because it was where everyone and everything was. From learning how to navigate social media to how we present ourselves online, it’s important to reflect and think back to how our decisions are impacting us and how we are influenced by what we see, hear and experience online. Going forward, I hope to learn more about how to make better decisions that will keep me learning and to better navigate the online world for myself and for others that I know. After this course ends, I also hope to learn more about how I can learn about the digital world and explore different topics in which I may not know too much about.
